I have been wondering this. I wonder whether or not Google is going to sunset or discontinue service of the music on their Google Play Music app because I haven’t seen any significant changes in what seems like 2-3 years. Last change I can remember is them fiddling with the context menu (I’m talking about the three vertical dots menu on some items) and pretty much perfecting what needs to be on there. Now, I understand that software changes and stagnates and sometimes there is such a thing as the “The Perfect Version”®. Which, maybe that is where Google Play Music app is at and that’s where it needs to be for the rest of time.
Or…they are not allocating resources to it and planning to sunset the app. Which to me means, have fewer developers working on it until there’s just a couple and then gradually turn off the music library service to save money for royalty licenses for some other, newer Music app or something. I don’t know why they would do this, it just seems that way to me because of the lack of changes applied to the app that I can see. That being said, it’s still my favorite music app currently. I used a few other ones like BlackPlayer, Spotify, and Tidal, and those were good, but Google Play Music was more familiar to me, and had some uploaded songs that I had put on there eons ago that couldn’t be found on other services. Some local bands. Etc.
As time goes on there will be more and more development in the field of Music Streaming Apps and if 5G doesn’t kill us, then we will be able to stream vast amounts of our music libraries over thin air. Might be kinda cool. I just wish there was a Music Streaming App that topped all the other ones. From what I’ve seen they each have their strengths, and their weaknesses. This is just my opinion, but Google Play Music app was and is remaining my music streaming app of choice. I hope they don’t sunset it. And I would like to investigate what it takes to make a Music Streaming App. Perhaps I could roll my own in an effort to make the perfect thing for me. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions on the subject here and I think some of these apps fit a lot of peoples needs.
